Sleep

Sleep is something we cannot do without, yet millions of people are deprived of it every night. This could be do to the fact that they are not getting enough magnesium in their diet. Good food sources of magnesium include whole grains (such as wholemeal flour and oatmeal), nuts, sesame seeds and dark green leafy vegetables are. Coffee inhibits the absorption of magnesium from food or in a supplement, so don't wash this supplement down with a cup of coffee!

Aging is characterized by the progressive deterioration of physiological functions. Insomnia or a decrease in the ability to sleep soundly may be inpart due to magnesium deficiency. This complex process has been proposed to be under the influence of both genetic and environmental (nutrition, lifestyle) influence at a ratio of approximately 30:70, not counting stochastic variation. Several pieces of evidence link low magnesium (Mg) to aging and age-related diseases. In turn, it is noteworthy that aging itself constitutes a risk factor for Mg deficit , thus creating a vicious circle that drives the clinical patterns seen in aging.

The majority of people think of phosphorus and calcium as the most important dietary components for structural entegrity bone health and yes even sleep. But magnesium also plays an important role in keeping those bones strong. It involves multitudes of biochemical reactions, many of which help keep not only your bones strong, but the heart rhythm constant and the nervous system functioning at a optimal level.
